Revert when the result is larger

Compression ratio is not a contest. A file that was already squeezed can get fatter. 2.0 makes the rule explicit: if the main file grows, keep the original bytes.

If the result is larger, the original bytes stay. Vision steps that change pixels do not revert.

When it reverts

  • Compress or convert, and the file got larger.
  • A PDF that grew (rare, same rule).

The list shows 0%. That is protection, not failure. Failures have a reason and do not consume quota.

When it does not

After a successful upscale or cutout, pixels changed. A larger file stays. Target-size mode keeps whichever of the original or the result is closer to your cap.

Use the compare view. Do not trust a percentage. See Plans.

Do not

  • Do not look for a switch to force “must be smaller.” There is none.
  • Do not treat a revert as a quota loophole. A written result still counts.
  • Do not expect an already-upscaled file to shrink back to the old byte size and keep the extra pixels.

Next: A plan is a preset.
