Image Optimizer: compress, cut out, and upscale without leaving this computer
Image Optimizer is a local batch output tool for macOS and Windows. Drop in a folder, pick a plan, and compress, convert to WebP / AVIF / JPEG XL, remove backgrounds, enlarge 2× or 4×, watermark, or shrink PDFs. Work happens on your machine. Images and PDFs are not uploaded. On Windows you can also install from the Microsoft Store .
Free quota is 300 images per calendar month. Failed jobs do not count. Pro is unlimited after a one-time CD-Key, on up to 3 devices. Watermark, watch folders, upscale, and cutout are available to free users. The gate is quota, not feature locks.

What it is and is not
| A fit | Not a fit |
|---|---|
| Whole folders to compress, convert, or export sizes without sending assets to a website | One tiny file where an online tool is faster and you accept uploads |
| Product shots that need a white background, several sizes, and a watermark, and must stay offline | 80+ filters, node graphs, RAW, or PSD |
| Sites or installers that need WebP / AVIF / JXL and a visual check | Cloud-credit cutout, image generation, or a monthly retouching suite |
| A PDF in the same queue, with text still selectable when possible | Saving pictures as PDF, or opening encrypted PDFs |
Lab samples (labeled, not a global average): a 6-file mixed jpg/png/gif/webp set went from 3.19MB to 0.95MB, about −70.3% (RC on 2026-08-22). A photo-heavy PDF went from about 11.5 MB to 1.49 MB on the ebook preset.
Main capabilities
| Capability | Notes |
|---|---|
| Batch | Drag-and-drop, multi-file, recursive folders; one bad file does not stop the rest |
| Nine outputs | WebP, AVIF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, HEIF, JPEG 2000, JPEG XL, or keep the original |
| Extra inputs | HEIC, SVG, BMP, PDF |
| Six built-in plans | Compress, WebP, target size, multiple sizes, upscale, cutout |
| Compare | Split or side-by-side after processing |
| Watermark | Nine-cell placement, margin, scale, opacity |
| Watch folders | New images or PDFs in a folder run with the selected plan |
| Negative-opt guard | If the file grows, original bytes are kept (not after a successful upscale or cutout) |
| Target file size | Approach a byte budget by quality and resolution |
| Local upscale | 2× / 4× in the plan; install the engine in Settings |
| Local cutout | Remove the background in the plan; install the engine in Settings |
| PDF compression | Preset quality, output stays PDF, text stays selectable when possible |

Free vs Pro
There is no feature wall. Free and Pro share the same tools. The difference is count:
- Free: 300 images per calendar month. Failures do not count. The counter resets next month.
- Pro: lifetime unlock on the site (¥79.99 on the Chinese page, $14.99 on the English page) via CD-Key, on up to 3 devices.
When quota runs out, an upgrade dialog appears. Jobs do not fail silently. See Getting started and pricing .
How is this different from online compressors?
Online compressors often cap size (for example 5 MB) and files per session, and they upload your pictures. Image Optimizer runs whole folders locally, with no upload wall, plus watch folders, watermarks, PDF, cutout, and upscale. You do need a desktop app and a local image engine (bundled on Windows, one-click install on macOS).
